Soccer Sectional Returning to Bethany

INDIANAPOLIS — The IHSAA has released the minutes of the Executive Committee's June 24 meeting, and it appears that Bethany will host Sectional 8 for the ninth consecutive year. The minutes list only sectionals that will change host sites, and none of the other sectional schools are hosting. This is the third girls soccer sectional that the Bruins have been tapped to host since the school was removed from other hosting rotations in the spring of 2007 due to the school's policy of not playing the national anthem at sporting events. In the eight years of the Bethany Christian girls soccer sectional, the host school is 9-5 and 2-2 in the sectional final.

The boys soccer and tennis sectionals will continue at Goshen, the boys and girls cross country sectionals will be at Ox Bow County Park, and the volleyball sectional will be held at Canterbury.

In other news, volleyball sectional winners will play a one-match regional on the Tuesday after the sectional final, with a four-team semi-state the following Saturday and the state championship match in each class the Saturday after that in Muncie. The regional is new for this year; previously, sixteen teams advanced to semi-state play and four teams in each class went to state.

The committee announced that the girls basketball state finals will return to Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne in 2011.
