Baseball, Tennis Sectionals Set

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

INDIANAPOLIS and GOSHEN — The Indiana High School Athletic Association has announced the sectional pairings for tennis and baseball within the last 27 hours. The Bruin girls tennis team, entering tonight's match at John Glenn, is 13-2; in order to pick up its first sectional win, Bethany will need to take out Fairfield in a rematch of last year's final Thursday afternoon at Goshen Middle School. NorthWood will play the winner of a Jimtown-Goshen first round match on Thursday as well, with the winners meeting for the championship Friday.

In baseball, Bethany will open sectional play with a rare Wednesday-night contest next week at Fort Wayne Canterbury, facing off against three-time state champion Fort Wayne Blackhawk. The Braves have won nine of the last ten sectionals, with the only break coming in 2009 when Canterbury knocked off Bethany in the final. Other first round games will pit the host Cavaliers against Hamilton and ECA against Lakewood Park on Thursday and Saturday. Bethany or Blackhawk will meet Howe in a semifinal on Memorial Day morning with the other semifinal to follow; the sectional championship game is set for 5 p.m. that afternoon.

Bethany's complete paths to the state tournament follow the jump.
