GOSHEN — Bethany and NorthWood will get a chance to play their rained-out tennis match this year after all. It just won't be in the regular season.
The Bruins and Panthers, whose Sept. 9 match was canceled so NorthWood could make up a conference rainout, will meet Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the tennis sectional tournament at Goshen Middle School's courts. The site creates another parallel to the rainout of three weeks ago, because the conference match was against — who else? — Goshen.
Defending sectional champion Fairfield opens its tournament Thursday afternoon against Goshen on the other side of the bracket, while Jimtown awaits the winner of Wednesday's match. The final is set for Friday, with Saturday and Monday serving as rain dates. The sectional winner advances to regional play at Concord Tuesday, Oct. 4; semi-state will be held at Homestead High School near Fort Wayne on Saturday, Oct. 8, with the eight-team state finals beginning in Carmel and Indianapolis six days later.
