33 Bruins Win Fall Awards

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association has named Bruin senior Ben Mast as a first-team Academic All-State player for the 2010 season. Mast was also named first-team all-District 2, which covers northeast Indiana from Elkhart to Fort Wayne. Mast is the first Bethany player to be honored with either award.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Soccer Coaches Association honored eleven Bethany players with Academic All-State and All-State awards for the 2010 season. Junior Femi Hollinger-Janzen was named third-team all-state at the awards banquet Nov. 21 in Indianapolis, while seniors Ben Bontreger, James Helmuth and Joel Yoder joined juniors Jared Nussbaum and Jeff Yoder in receiving academic all-state honors for the boys. Girls team members on the academic all-state team, which requires a GPA of 3.6 (senior) or 3.7 (junior) were senior Sharisse Yoder and juniors Emma Caskey, Gina Gautsche, Paige Wheeler, and Malaina Weldy. Yoder was selected to and named the MVP of the PostYourT.org 1A all-star game Nov. 21 in Indianapolis.

GOSHEN — The string of Bethany players earning Northern Indiana Soccer Conference Player of the Year honors is at two. Femi Hollinger-Janzen was named the outstanding conference player for 2010, following in the footsteps of 2009 winner and current Western Michigan Bronco Jesse Ramer. Seniors Ben Bontreger, Aaron Stiffney, and Joel Yoder joined Hollinger-Janzen and junior Drew Sylvester on the all-NISC first team, while senior Matt Weaver and junior Jeff Yoder were Bethany representatives on the second team.
