Bleeding Bruin Blue Athlete of the Week, September 27-October 3, October 4-10, & October 11-17

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

The Bleeding Bruin Blue Athletes of the Week for September 27-October 3 and October 4-10 are, respectively, sophomore Emma Caskey and junior Mattie Lehman. To see their exploits for the week in question, type their names into the search box above, then scroll down.

The Athlete of the Week for October 11-17 is senior Kelly Snyder, who staved off seven straight would-be game-winning or game-continuing kicks in a shootout to advance to the sectional final. In that game, her seven saves kept Bethany's 1-0 lead intact, but the most important plays were not credited as such. Snyder deflected a Warsaw free kick in the final half-minute, then covered a deflection of the ensuing corner kick with six seconds to play to assure Bethany of their sectional title. Snyder also set a record for the most Athlete of the Week nominations this week.

Eligibility: Literally all Bruins in a position to win any athletic letter (varsity, JV or freshman) during the current season, or middle school counterparts thereof are eligible. The only exceptions are recent winners: however, this rule does not apply during postseason play. Therefore, the players who would ordinarily be ineligible for the Oct. 18-24 award are all eligible, because their teams have begun tournament play.

Next Week: Nominations will be due Sunday, Oct. 25, at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. To nominate someone, send an e-mail to senorloco1908@gmail.com and put "AOW nomination: [name of athlete ('athlete' is singular, not plural)]" in the subject line. The body of the message can be used for whatever you want. The three simple things that will disqualify a message are:
  1. A subject line that reads "AOW nomination: [name of athlete ('athlete' is singular, not plural)]" without actually naming an athlete.
  2. Anyone nominating multiple people will have only the last nomination counted.
  3. SeƱor Loco reserves the right to ignore e-mails with unnecessarily vulgar sections.
