Bleeding Bruin Blue Athletes of the Week, October 18-November 29

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

It has come to my attention that the Athlete of the Week award has not been given since October 18, the day after the girls soccer team won their sectional. (Has it really only been six weeks?) Therefore, without further ado or Freddy Adu, here are the previously decided but previously unannounced Athletes of the Week:

  • October 18-24: Marla zumFelde
  • October 25-November 7: No Bethany competitions
  • November 8-14: Ali Hochstetler
  • November 15-21: Trent Yoder
  • November 22-28: Seth Kauffman
Eligibility: Literally all Bruins in a position to win any athletic letter (varsity, JV or freshman) during the current season, or middle school counterparts thereof are eligible. The only exceptions are recent winners: therefore, Kauffman, Yoder and Hochstetler are ineligible for the November 29-December 5 award.

Next Week: Nominations will be due Sunday, Dec. 6, at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. To nominate someone, send an e-mail to senorloco1908@gmail.com and put "AOW nomination: [name of athlete ('athlete' is singular, not plural)]" in the subject line. The body of the message can be used for whatever you want. The three simple things that will disqualify a message are:
  1. A subject line that reads "AOW nomination: [name of athlete ('athlete' is singular, not plural)]" without actually naming an athlete.
  2. Anyone nominating multiple people will have only the last nomination counted.
  3. Señor Loco reserves the right to ignore e-mails with unnecessarily vulgar sections.

Bethany Soccer Players Named All-Conference

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

GOSHEN — Jesse Ramer was named Northern Indiana Soccer Conference player of the year for the 2009 season, Bleeding Bruin Blue has learned. This is the third consecutive season on the all-NISC first team for the player with more assists than all but three players in school history; he is joined on the team by J.D. Nafziger, Aaron Stiffney, and Femi Hollinger-Janzen. Senior Seth Kauffman and junior Ben Bontreger are Bethany's representatives on the all-conference second team. (Ramer and Stiffney won all-district awards from the Indiana Soccer Coaches Association last week; click here for more details.)

On the girls side, senior defender Karli Graybill was named all-conference for the first time, while junior midfielder Sharisse Yoder makes her second consecutive appearance. Senior goalkeeper Kelly Snyder, who recorded shutouts in nine of Bethany's eleven wins this year, was named to the second team for the second time, while senior forward Emma Gerig garnered second-team recognition as well.
