Wawasee scores early, wins season opener
SYRACUSE, Ind. — The Wawasee Warriors took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, led 3-0 after two frames, and held Bethany to two hits en route to a 7-0 victory in both teams' season openers. Bruin pitchers Josh Plank and Andy Slagel held Wawasee to four hits, but were victimized by four errors behind them. Bethany (0-2) left seven men on base. The Bruins' home opener is Thursday, when they will take on Lakeland at 5:00 to begin the 22nd season of baseball at Bodiker Field. We will have live updates on Twitter at @bleedingbruin.

Girls tennis
Crosstown match goes to Goshen
GOSHEN — Goshen High School prevailed 5-0 in the annual girls tennis match between Bethany and Goshen, held Tuesday night at Bethany. The visitors took four of the five positions in straight sets: a 7-5 victory in the second set at no. 1 doubles was the only set Bethany won in the varsity match. JV results were cut off by the fax machine.
The Bruins (0-2) travel to Tippecanoe Valley Thursday night for a 5:00 contest.

Maria Thomas lost to Ali Peters 1-6, 1-6. Brooke Hershberger lost to Miranda Kay 1-6, 1-6. Mandy Meserve lost to Emily Halley 3-6, 2-6. Pooja Patel/Paige Wheeler lost to Andrea Yeater/Leah Shetler 1-6, 7-5, 3-6. Sadie Gustafson-Zook/Lynea Brubaker Kaethler lost to Brittany Graber/Kayci Troyer 5-7, 2-6.
