Bethany Volleyball Invitational Schedule

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

GOSHEN — Bethany volleyball will open its own invitational Saturday morning with a match against South Bend Riley, the athletic department announced today. The tournament is set to begin at 9 a.m. and continue until the early afternoon, with the six matches evenly divided between the Menno Lands and the middle-school gym. Under IHSAA rules, the tournament will be played to the best of 3 sets rather than the usual best-of-5.

Cavaliers Out, Bobcats In For Boys Soccer

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

GOSHEN — The Bruin boys soccer team will not open its season tonight as scheduled, as the game between Bethany and Culver Community has been canceled following the latter school's departure from the Northern Indiana Soccer Conference. To replace the canceled game, Bethany has announced the addition of a varsity-only contest at Oregon-Davis on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.; the Bruins' new season opener will be Thursday night when they host Elkhart Memorial.

WGCS Announces Bethany Broadcast Schedule

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

From WGCS press release

GOSHEN — WGCS-FM has announced that it will broadcast three more Bethany boys basketball games over the course of the 2010-11 season. The station plans to cover the final of Saturday's Bethany Christian Holiday Tournament, followed in February by the Bethany/ECA and Bethany/Fremont contests. Coverage will originate live from the Menno Lands on all three dates, featuring a pair of Bethany alumni on the call in 2010 graduate Tony Miller and either 2005 graduate Keith Beber or 2010 alumnus Jesse Ramer. Tomorrow's pregame show will begin at 7:20 p.m. with tip-off to follow at 7:45, while the February games will begin at 7:30 with pregame coverage beginning 30 minutes earlier. The holiday tournament broadcast will be canceled due to schedule conflicts if the Bruins play in the consolation game.

Northern Indiana basketball on WGCS is broadcast in Michiana at 91.1 mHz with 6000 watts of Effective Radiated Power from the Goshen College Union Building and online around the world at www.globeradio.org.

Sectional Shrinks as Keystone Closes

FORT WAYNE — Bethany will have only six other opponents in its baseball, softball and basketball sectionals after the closing of Keystone School in Fort Wayne. The closing, reported on the front page of the school’s website, had been suggested in Fort Wayne newspapers as early as January 30, with the Journal-Gazette going as far as to report on what would happen should the school shut its doors between the basketball sectional draw and its elimination from the tournament. Indiana’s NewsCenter, a joint venture between Fort Wayne television stations WPTA and WISE, reported June 18 that a decision on the school’s future was expected within the week.

Bleeding Bruin Blue’s Internet searches have turned up no additional reports since June 18 aside from the school site mentioned earlier. Bethany and Keystone were scheduled to meet in three sports during the 2010-11 school year.

2010-11 Basketball Schedules

NOMINATE 2009-10 MEMORABLE MOMENTS

The Indiana High School Basketball websites run by John Harrell have posted Bethany's varsity basketball schedules for next year, and they bear much similarity to the ones the Bruins played last year. As there were no postponements of boys games in 2009-10, that schedule remains the same except for the natural progression of the calendar. The girls have dropped Northridge, a game which would have occurred on Tues., November 16, and replaced that game with Lakeland Christian six days later. In addition, the girls varsity game with LaVille was removed and the JV game will be played on the Monday before Christmas rather than the traditional Thursday.

Saturday Schedule Change

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

GOSHEN — The Bethany athletic department has announced that tomorrow's doubleheader against Howe will start at noon rather than 10:00 a.m. to permit the field more time to dry.

Baseball/Softball Schedule Update

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

LAKEVILLE, Ind. — The Bethany baseball game scheduled at LaVille Thursday night has been canceled. The Lancers had their Northern State Conference game against Knox postponed by rain on Friday; that game will be made up on Thursday in the open date created by the Bethany cancellation.

GOSHEN — The sporting events that were rained out last Friday and Saturday will not be made up.

GOSHEN — Tuesday night's baseball game between NorthWood and Bethany at Bodiker Field has been designated as a "Striking out 'K'ancer" game through the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association. Bethany will donate $1 from each paid admission to the American Cancer Society, and fans will have the opportunity to donate as well.

Sectional Games Postponed Again

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

The middle school girls games that had been mentioned for tonight are scheduled for February 25. We regret the source error.

Schedule Update

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

GOSHEN — Senior Loco will be on señor trip in Tennessee this week, or something like that. Because of that, Bleeding Bruin Blue will likely not be featuring any new content until I return Friday night. There are no high school games scheduled until Saturday; the middle school teams play six games in the intervening time period.

As great as this service may be, the best way to experience a game is still to watch it in person. Go ahead and make the trek down to the Menno Lands complex. I'm sure Bethany will appreciate your support.

Thursday's Action Falls Victim To Winter Weather

NOMINATE FOR ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

GOSHEN — Bethany has announced that today's basketball games will not be played as scheduled. The middle school boys games against West Noble have been canceled, while the girls games with Bremen have been postponed. The girls games will be played Tuesday, January 26.

Bethany and West Noble will play the first game at 5:00 p.m. EDT, followed at approximately 7:00 by NorthWood and ECA. On Saturday, the Bruins will battle the Eagles at 10:00 a.m., with NorthWood closing out Bethany's tournament schedule three hours later.
The full schedule follows.

Middle School Soccer Update

GOSHEN — Reports that last weekend's Lakeland Christian Invitational was canceled were erroneous, Bleeding Bruin Blue has learned. The tournament was in fact postponed to this Saturday, where Bethany's "A" team will have the following schedule:

  • vs. Lakeland Christian, 10:20 a.m.
  • vs. Caston, 11:40 a.m.
  • vs. Lakeview Christian, 12:20 p.m.
  • vs. Manchester, 1:00 p.m.

In Which Your Brilliant Editor Realizes The Schedule Is Slightly Off

NOMINATE FOR MENNO LANDS MEMORIES or ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Several changes and additions to this week's schedule, which I neglected to follow up on or check before I actually posted it over the weekend.
The boys tennis match Monday night is/was at Mishawaka, not Bethany.
Friday's boys soccer game with First Baptist will be either the JV or the "C" team, not both; we are still confirming which team will play.
Finally, Saturday's three-way volleyball match with Keystone and Hamilton will follow this schedule, as confirmed by the athletic department:

  • Bethany vs. Keystone, 9:00 a.m.
  • Keystone vs. Hamilton, 10:00 a.m.
  • Bethany vs. Hamilton, 11:00 a.m.

One Soccer Game Broadcast, Four More Rained Out

NOMINATE FOR MENNO LANDS MEMORIES or ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

GOSHEN — Bleeding Bruin Blue has learned that Saturday's boys varsity soccer game between Wawasee and Bethany will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis over Michiana Sports Authority. The game will begin at approximately 6:45 p.m. EDT.
Though as I write this it is 74 degrees and sunny, Saturday's middle school Lakeland Christian Invitational has been canceled due to wet fields; Warsaw has absorbed 5.17 inches of rain this week, according to The Weather Channel's website. The Bruins, who have combined the boys and girls teams due to a lack of players in the latter program, will start their season at 5:30 on August 25 hosting Plymouth.
Site maintenence note: The "msso" label will be utilized for the 2009 season in place of the boys- and girls-specific labels.

Thursday Trivia Schedule Changes

NOMINATE FOR MENNO LANDS MEMORIES or ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Several updates to Thursday's schedule, which can also be seen on This Week In Bruindom (link below the fold on the right side):
The JV boys soccer game with Memorial has been postponed to a later date. According to coach Hank Willems, the change is due to an issue regarding the number of Memorial players with sufficient practice time. With this move, the varsity game will start at 6:30 p.m. EDT.
The JV girls soccer game at Hamilton has been postponed to September 3.
Both cross country teams will open their season at 5:00, running in the Goshen Invitational at Shanklin Park.
Rounding out the schedule, boys tennis hosts Goshen at 4:30 and volleyball travels to LaVille with the JV match at 6:00.
Both soccer teams along with tennis and volleyball start their seasons Tuesday.
